"Yoemia Naikiawame" Census 2010

In 2009, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe received $153,450 to be distributed throughout the community to help birth through five tribal children and their families. The Regional Allocation Methodology adopted by the State Board of First Things First (FTF) uses the latest Bureau of the Census data to distribute First Things First funds across the 31 Regional Partnership Councils.  Therefore, it is important for community members to participate and stand up to be counted on Census 2010 for services for children birth through 5 in their communities. The First Things First Pascua Yaqui Tribe Regional Partnership Council works in partnership with Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council and the community to provide families with opportunities to improve their children’s developmental, health and educational outcomes. www.azftf.gov

Census Process

Every 10 years, everyone living in the United States is counted. The Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The next census will occure April 1st 2010. Participation in the census is required by law. Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census. Census data is used to distribute Congressional seats to States, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year. Many tribal governments, including our communities, have been ‘under counted.' This means that NOT all of our Tribal Members are being counted. As a result, we do not get our fair share of Federal Funds needed to provide services to our community. Visit http://2010.census.gov/2010census/ for more general information.
